    The Ole Wedding Music Switcheroo

With a melodious roar, a mother-in-law's selection of wedding music takes the bride by surprise during the ceremony.

My friend Jennifer’s controlling mother-in-law changed her wedding music without her consent. We found out at the ceremony, as it was taking place. During the lighting of the unity candle, Jim Croce’s “Time in a Bottle” was supposed to play. That was the song Jennifer’s mom and dad had used for their unity candle lighting years before. But instead, Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King began to play. I’m sure Jennifer’s mother-in-law expected to see fury on the bride’s face. But instead, we – Jennifer and I – exchanged a long look and just giggled. So unexpected, and so unimportant in the grand scheme of things. – Allison, Spring, Texas
